Just Playing

When I am building in the block room, please don’t say I’m “just playing”.

For, you see, I’m learning as I play, about balance and shapes.

Who knows, I may be an architect someday.

When I’m getting all dressed up, setting the table, caring for the babies, don’t get the idea I’m “just playing”.

For, you see, I’m learning as I play; I may be a mother or father someday.

When you see me up to my elbows in paint or standing at an easel, or molding and shaping clay, please don’t let me hear you say, “He is just playing”.

For, you see, I’m learning as I play.  I’m expressing myself and being creative.

I may be an artist or an inventor someday.

When you see me sitting in a chair ‘reading’ to an imaginary audience, please don’t laugh and think “I’m just playing”.

For, you see, I am learning as I play.

I may be a teacher someday.

When you see me combing the bushes for bugs, or packing my pockets with choice things I find, don’t pass it off as “just play”.

For, you see, I’m learning as I play.

I may be a scientist someday.

When you see me engrossed in a puzzle or some ’plaything’ at my school, please don’t feel the time is wasted in “play”.

For, you see, I’m learning as I play.  I’m solving problems and concentrate.

I may be in business someday.

When you see me cooking or tasting foods, please don’t think that because I enjoy it, it is “just play”.

I’m learning to follow directions and see differences.

I may be a cook someday.

When you see me learning to skip, hop, run and move my body, please don’t say I’m “just playing”.

For, you see, I’m learning as I play.  I’m learning how my body works.

I may be a doctor, a nurse, or an athlete someday.

When you ask me what I’ve done at school today, and I say “I just played”, please don’t misunderstand me.

For, you see, I’m learning as I play.  I’m learning to enjoy and be successful in my work.

I’m preparing for tomorrow. Today, I am a child and work is play.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

On Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day, our Daily Bread,

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil. Amen.

Blizzard Bags will go into effect once we have exceeded our allotted hours. You will be instructed on when to begin using the Blizzard Bags.

Blizzard Bag - Calamity Day Activities

Choose one or more of the following activities to do each day that we are out of school due to inclement weather.

* Spend time reading to your child.

* While reading ask questions about the book, listen for words that rhyme, and or words that begin with the same sound.

* Let your child 'read' a book to you.

* Do a simple activity together.

* Bake cookies or muffins, make a snow person, fix hot chocolate, pop popcorn, play a board game, do a craft, play with playdough, etc.

* Have your child find, name and sort shapes.

* Ask your child to identify the following:

* Ask your child to go on a 'shape hunt' to look for things that have the same shape as a circle, square, triangle and rectangle.

* Have your child name the color of each balloon.

*Ask your child to look for other things in your home that would match one of the balloons.

* Randomly point to a number and ask your child to say it.

* Listen to your child count. Practice counting 1- 10, and then encourage counting beyond 10.

* Ask your child to count items. For example: count the number of chairs at your eating table, count the number of televisions in your house, or count the number of shoes in his or her closet.

* Have your child match number amounts with the numeral. For example; group 6 cheerios and have your child match it to the number 6.

* Have your child practice writing their name correctly.

Baby Jesus

(sung to Happy Birthday)

On the first Christmas day,

From the Father above,

Came the little Lord Jesus

To show us God's love.

Jesus Loves Me

Jesus loves me this I know.

For the Bible tells me so.

Little ones to Him belong.

They are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me.

Yes, Jesus loves me.

Yes, Jesus loves me.

The Bible tells me so.
